One of the first questions was - how on earth would we come up with the new look and feel for the site? Fortunately for us, the chapter won funding to work with an outside marketing firm to create the design. So we thought the hard part was over, because all that was left to do was to find the technical resources to construct the site. Wrong!!!! Finding the technical resources was fairly easy, but what we did not bargain for were the constraints of not working with a traditionally hosted website. You see, it turns out that our website is hosted by an Online Content Management System.
With an Online Content Management System, the site is created through WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) interfaces and templates, not your traditional code. This was challenging for our web developers because they now had to learn how to incorporate their coding changes into our provider’s framework. It was also a challenge for our provider because some of our requirements just would not fit into their delivered framework so they had to do some additional coding behind the scenes to make things work. It all came together and the design was successfully implemented into our website.
Hats off to my fellow project team members – Ken Henegan, Jones Wynn, Pamela Speights, Claudia DeAnda, Dawn Kostun and Andy Saenz for making this project successful!
Check back next week to find out more about some of the new features and technologies we discovered along the way. Don’t forget to check out the website out at www.ihrimatlantase.org!
